CASTAIC JUNCTION, Los Angeles County — The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation still lists the Castaic Lake campgrounds as closed until further notice because of damage from the Hughes Fire, a restriction relevant to people visiting the lake from the Castaic Junction area.
The official recreation-area page includes campsite reservation information and published camping fees, but explicitly warns that the campgrounds are not operating. A listed fee is not an offer to book a closed site. Day-use recreation, boating and some other park services have separate rules and may be available when camping is not.
County parks also identifies closures at several major regional parks on Mondays and Tuesdays, a schedule adopted to concentrate staffing and reduce costs. However, a blanket closed-day notice should not be confused with current facility-specific emergency access or contractual operations. Park maintenance and wildfire recovery may change reopening dates.
Practical information for residents and travelers
Travelers should confirm any campsite reopening directly with LA County Parks rather than relying on outdated third-party reservation descriptions. If overnight accommodation is essential, use a confirmed alternative instead of arriving with a trailer expecting the campground to be open.
